Le PénitentLe Pénitent

Le Pénitent is a 2014 French language film directed, produced and scripted by Louis Martins. The film follows the central character, ‘The Girl’ as she comes to terms with the loss of a friend, her surreal dreams and the darkness inside her. Principal photography took place in London and Paris in 2011. Le Pénitent was shot in black and white in a La Nouvelle Vague (The New Wave) style. Martins’ used film noir and neo noir methods to create the dark and foreboding world in which the story unfolds.

One summer morning in 2010 I was on my way to work when I had an idea. That idea developed over time and in the spring of 2011 I began producing the film. The entire film is my creation, I put my heart and soul into the making of it and I am proud to present my debut foreign language film, Le Pénitent.

The film is in two parts, links to the film can be found below. The original is in French language but there is another version with English subtitles for those who don’t speak French. Special thanks to Kate Victors, Emmanuelle Maeder, Adnan Akram, Neil Stone, Marcus Maus and Rosemary Locker, I couldn’t have done it without you.

I hope you enjoy the film, please share the film if you deem it worthy. Tomorrow I will be publishing the interview about the film.
