This powerful image was taken the morning after a violent protest in Athens. The broken shop window told a symbolic tale of the troubles sweeping across the Greek capital. The cracked glass created a dramatic frame for the hands in the background; the hands had a calming quality amidst the chaos of the damaged façade.
The shattered glass acts as a metaphor, the tension and conflict during those times had damaged the very fabric of Greek society; with every splinter of glass the suffering deepened.
